The Silicon Valley immersion trip is an opportunity for students to explore companies in a way
that they wouldn’t have expected to. I managed to see multiple companies that gave
great advice, great information” Companies that are very well known, google,
youtube, intel, then you have small companies too and even startup companies. Now I’m really getting in to see which companies
really fit for me and which ones I can see myself at. You kind of get so see how they work in teams,
the environment they do it in. It was a wonderful work life balance that
they saw at companies, seeing that in companies helps them understand a company is invested
in you so they can get the best out of you. When you are visiting these companies they
are talking to you like a friend, especially since many of our connections are through
alumni. I learned a lot about networking – that’s
the biggest one. It was a good teaching moment for them because
they felt more comfortable reaching back out and following up and networking and seeing
the alum as mentors. They had that connection that made them feel
like part of the same family. The trip has been really fantastic. Just getting a chance to see a whole different
culture, the west coast is a different vibe then the east. Those moments you were able to appreciate
the experience they were having out in silicon valley. You have to enjoy the place where you are
at to get the full experience. (Music)
To sail under the golden gate bridge as the night is falling and the sun is setting, enjoying
the night breeze in san Francisco, it’s beautiful. Looking at the city line on the way back. Just to be able to relax and be in the moment
A lot of these companies have introduced me to the idea of passion, and why they come
out here to silicon valley. I think it was amazing to be able to sit down
and talk with these engineers. They get to see what their next step is going
to be, they see life after college. To see that bond built, it’s warming to
my heart.
