Office Information Systems & Computer Applications

Office Information Systems & Computer Applications

The OIS – Office Information Systems program – and
the Computer Application program are both skills-based programs where we
focus on learning new skills, exploring technology, and we also include some
business courses. This program is important especially for students who
are not sure whether they want a major in business or technology. So, it gives
them an entry level to both sides. It offers students the opportunity to, one,
get a job. So, we are not a transfer degree. This degree is geared towards
learning skills that will make them employable. What I enjoy about the
program is that it works at my pace. I love that I can go as fast or slow as I
need to, I can go back and review things if I have to, and it’s a really immerse program. Students choose STLCC for this program because we have the most engaged faculty.
They choose the hands-on learning and the small classrooms. I found the instructors not only to be very, very informative, but they do allow
the time to make sure that you understand or you get it. A student who
is looking at the OIS program would be a student who’s looking to get both the
skills-based courses as well as the general education courses, as compared to
a student who only wanted the Computer Applications certificate. Perhaps this is
a student who’s already in the workforce, but they need to increase their current
technology skills because technology changes so fast. That would be a great
candidate for Computer Applications. Enjoy your experience. Enjoy
exploring. Don’t have nothing in your mind thinking bad things because it’s
not like that. It’s an awesome place to learn, you get to work with people, and
you get to learn and get new friends. I think students love exploring new
technologies, getting in-depth with applications that they have used on a
regular basis, but when they began to see how they’re used in business everyday
and beyond a general use, I think they get excited because it’s things that
they haven’t explored in their everyday life.
