opportunity post graduation. There’s a variety of ways that students can access
the Wasserman Center Services; we have walk-in hours available every day for
students who have quick questions. We have private 30 minute career coaching appointments available to students Monday through Friday, and we also have our events on campus such as our professional development sessions, our

currently operates incubators in three different locations:

machine learning, digital media and gaming,
whereas Varick Street has a broad a technology portfolio spanning many
technologies. Narrator: Number 8: Advising Staff: So at NYU Tandon School of Engineering I oversee
the academic lives of the first-year students but also making sure that they
are connected to tutoring support services, making sure they’re connected
to advisors who can help them to craft viable educational plans. Advisors are
there as the guide posts, to really act as a sounding board for
students who are coming in and thinking about what they want to be and
how they can make this happen. So if I’m interested in being a mechanical
engineer, well what are the steps that I have to take in order to realize this goal. The
advisors job is to help the students to craft a viable plan and to really
understand the task at hand. So it’s important for students to be connected
to advisors because there are things that they might not take in
consideration that an advisor would be aware of and then can share with the
students to make sure that they’re tapping into it and they’re considering
it throughout the crafting of their educational plans. Narrator: Number 7: Labs Luke Dubois: At the School of Engineering, we have all kind of labs, everything from chemistry labs to computer science labs to electrical engineering labs to labs
related to robotics. Magnet is a little bit different. This is the Media and Games
Network so the Integrated Digital Media program which is the engineering
department in Magnet has labs that focus on media production and research. Every
lab has a pipe grid, a theatrical pipe grid in it so you can hang projectors,
you can hang screens, you can hang sensor equipment. In the public areas with 35
video projectors, you can just plug into so it’s designed so that it’s very easy
to kind of flip the space into an exhibition. There’s a lot of affordances
to kind of hack the space: you can tack things up, you can hang things, you can
pull things down, you can build things Narrator: Number 6: Alumni Alumna: People who graduate from
NYU School of Engineering typically work at companies like Deloitte Consulting,
Accenture, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Citi, among others. One of the greatest
things about being an alumni is the contacts that it affords you. You
really get to build your network, both inside your company at work and outside
of your company at work. When I was interviewing for my job, I actually got
interviewed by a bunch of different NYU alum who I’ve kept in contact with since
and they’ve been really great at answering any questions helping to guide
me through my career so it’s really something that I urge new students to
take advantage of. Narrator: Number 5: Bachelors of Science Master of Science degree. Staff: The BS/MS is for undergraduates with a strong academic record. It’s a program
for them to complete both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree within
five years by using a combination of AP credit and courses taken over
the summer. Also taking extra credits every semester the BS/MS program is a
great opportunity for students to obtain their bachelor’s and master’s without
having to go through the hassle of applying to graduate schools and taking
the GRE. The students can complete both degrees in both a shorter amount of time
for less cost than it would have been to pursue both degrees separately. Narrator: Number 4: Faculty Student: The faculty here at NYU have really been an integral
part of the experience. They’ve helped me develop and grow into the person
that I am today. Student 2: Our professors always welcome students outside of class if they need help. There’s a lot of one-on-one help if necessary. Student 3: Professor Jin Kim was the first professor from my department that I met. Starting research in his lab has been an amazing experience because he doesn’t just give students answers to questions in the lab but he points them in the right
direction on the trail to what they need to find so that on the way to finding
your answer you learn other things about what you’re doing. Student 4: Jin Montclair, she runs a protein engineering lab. So far I’ve worked on
two projects both deal with delivering small hydrophobic drugs using proteins
and she participates in panelists specifically for those for women in
STEM. So I found out about her through that and I have got a summer research
position and I asked to join her lab and I’ve been working there working here since. Narrator: Number 3: Undergraduate Summer Research Program Student 5: I got accepted
into the undergraduate summer research program the summer after my freshman
year and I’ve been doing it ever since then. I’m a rising senior and so I’ve
been paid since the beginning through this program and then through my
relationship with my professor I’ve been able to get paid during the school year
to do this work as well. Narrator: Number 2: Study Abroad Student 6: I think someone
should do study abroad because in order to get the full experience of whatever
you’re studying you can’t just stay in one city. Student 7: My study abroad experience
helped me define what exactly I want to do pursuing research. Some of the places
I went to were Western Europe which includes Spain, Portugal, Ireland. Student 6: And I went to Paris and Madrid for study abroad. Student 7: My favorite place that I visited during my travel was Spain. Study abroad has definitely helped me increase my global
network and in terms of career development and personal life and I
highly recommend it to anyone who has a desire later in the future. Student 6:
