Hi, I’m Jon on behalf of Expert Village in
this video clip we’ll be installing our birch top to our base. Now our first layer of table
top is that cabinetry grade birch and what we are going to do is we are going to go ahead
and set this in place where it goes. We are going to mark out our locations of each piece
below it, then we are going to attach those 2 pieces together. What I’ve done so far is
mark out the outside line of where each leg goes, I done that on the top and the bottom.
I went ahead and lined it up on the bottom so my marks should line up on both sides.
Next I’m going to drill some pilot holes in here, then we are going to take the top off
put glue along the top edges. Put the top back on and then go ahead and screw this down.
Next we are going to remove the top once those pilot holes have been drilled and we are going
to add glue along all the top pieces.
Now even though the end grain doesn’t glue very well I’m going to go ahead and still
put glue on it because it does hold somewhat, and it will just add to the holding power.
Once you set the top back on and lined up all of your lines with the legs again you
can go ahead and put a couple of screws in those pilot holes. Now you will want to make
sure that you sink the screw just below the surface. What we are going to end up doing
is putting our other top on top of this one. That is going to cover up all of these screws
and it’s going to look real nice.
