Bio-inspired Computing and Smart Mobility – Tu Tesis en 3 Minutos


Hello, my name is Daniel Stolfi and
I’m going to present my PhD thesis: “Bio-inspired Computing and Smart Mobility” How many times have you spent
valuable minutes in a traffic jam? The number of citizens in big cities
is continuously rising As a consequence,
there is a bigger number of vehicles in the streets, the number of traffic jams is increasing, tons of greenhouse gases
are emitted to the atmosphere and the citizens’ quality of life
is decreasing. In my PhD thesis I am developing
the Red Swam architecture which is able to avoid traffic jams
as well as reroute vehicles by using several spots
distributed throughout the city when there are accidents, repairs, etc. These spots are placed at
some traffic lights of the city to communicate with the vehicles
in order to suggest alternative routes by using: smartphones, tablets, and even on board units
installed at vehicles. The data provided to each
driver is personalized and distributed. It is not something so simple
as a GPS navigator. Moreover, the anonymous collection
of data about the state of the city including the traffic state, pollutant emissions,
temperatures, etc., is also possible. By doing this, we want to offer
historical data as well as real time information,
which is useful for local authorities and also for the government, since this is something essential
in a smart city project. Finally, this proposal can be extended to city vehicle fleets,
trash collection services, ambulances, fire department, etc. We have results that proof
the viability of this proposal to the reduction of travel times as well as the reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption. We use algorithms nature inspired In order to configure our system
and get the best solutions adapted to the city analysed. The research on new bio-inspired
algorithms as well as the development and implementation of them,
complete my proposal of PhD thesis. Thank you for watching this video.
